ENERGY SAVING WITH LED LIGHTING IN THE WORKPLACE
Here is a brief explanation of how using Tryka LED lighting products can save you money against traditional lighting types.
Savings in the Wattage between LED Lighting and Traditional Lighting
The fundamental saving made by replacing traditional lighting with LED is in the energy draw of the fittings.
If we take existing fittings to be 400w SON High Bay units, we would recommend replacing them with Tryka 140w LED Floodbay or 150W LED High Bay units.
So straight away a 400W SON unit is replaced with a 140W or 150W LED one.
The obvious imbalance goes further than this. Within these traditional units there are what is called control gear - starters and drivers. In a SON unit this extra ‘control gear’ will add yet more power draw to the fitting, typically 20% more. In fact in some lighting types with starters such as T8 fluorescent tubes, that additional draw can be even more over the lifetime of the fitting.
And as these lights get older, and their performance deteriorates, the power draw and consumption increases yet further as the light output drops.
With the LED fittings you have no control gear, just a Power Supply Unit (PSU). There is no warm-up time as is the case of the SON fittings for example, it is a simple and instant ‘on – off action’. But there is still a slight increase in draw.
So we would rate a one year old 400w SON fitting as typically drawing 480W over its lifetime, whilst a 140W LED Floodbay will pull 150w.
Similarly these are some examples of the wattage of traditional lighting types and the LED wattages we would replace them with:

So you have the obvious reduction in the power consumption of LED fittings against traditional lighting types, and obviously the more you have on the site, and the more hours they operate, the savings increase pro-rata.
Maintenance Savings due to Increased LED Lamp Life
Traditional fluorescent and SON lamp types have a lamp life of between 7000 – 15,000 hours depending on the quality, and cost of the fitting.
Similarly the vast majority of LED lamps are rated to last no less than 50,000 hours.
So not only will you be saving in the physical costs of the lamps you would be replacing on existing lights, most importantly you are saving on the labour rates for people to replace these lamps.
This in itself is conservative as it doesn’t take into account the greatly increased lamp replacement costs for fittings high in the ceilings or in difficult access locations. Here the cost of extra staff and access equipment substantially adds to the maintenance cost.
